Combat Score

A Combat Score is a numerical value used to estimate a character or NPC's general combat potential. It is used to calculate the Percent Survival Rate, or the general difficulty a player will have with any given situation. This system is designed to be used as a guideline, not an absolute ruling over the outcome of any situation. Keep in mind this score only calculates a characters numerical values based on skills, skill levels and some equipment. It does not take into account how those skills and equipment are used, nor the unpredictability that players bring to any situation.

Parts of the Combat Score

Combat Scores can be calculated by players at any time, but they should not be used as an absolute judge of success in any situation. There are many more factors than what can be quantified in a single scenario. The way it works is different factors, such as skill or skill level, give a character a single point toward their Combat Score. The total added amount is the characters total Combat Score, and it should be added separately each time a new situation of combat or conflict arises. Note that only skills or weapons which will actually be used in the combat scenario should be calculated into the Combat Score.

Base Combat Score for Race

Every races has a base combat score. Most humans have a base combat score of 1, and most Roshna have a base combat score of 2. Check your race's page to determine your base combat score.

Combat Oriented Skills

Any skill which will be used in the current combat scenario counts toward your combat score. The rank of each skill determines the exact number of points go toward the combat score.

Skill Level

Each skills rank earns a certain number of points depending on its current ranks. You receive 1 point for every rank you possess in your Primary Skill (E-A), 1 point for every rank in your Specialty Skill (C-A), and 2 points for every Master Rank skill (X-Z). So for example if a player is Rank B in the Swordsmanship (longblades) primary skill, and Rank A in the Longsword Specialty skill then the total number of points added to the combat score would be 4 for the primary skill (1 for E, 1 for D, 1 for C and 1 for B ranks) and 3 for the specialty skill (1 for C, 1 for B and 1 for A rank) for a total of 7.

Master Crafted Items

The condition of the equipment used can have potential affects on a person's ability to survive any given situation, but for a Combat Score a player will only receive a point toward their Combat Score if they are using a weapon or set of armor created by a Master Crafter. In such a case a character gets 1 point for every Master Level Crafted Item used in actual Combat.

Magical Items

Similar to Master Crafted items, some Magical Items will be counted toward a characters Combat Score. These include magical items designed specifically for combat, however, this does not include magitek which is used to perform the various magical disciplines available to Humans. This is because such magitek is tied in closely with the magical disciplines themselves and so are, for the sake of the Combat Score, counted as one and the same.

Poisons

If a character uses some form of poison treated weapon in the current combat situation, be it a poison dipped arrow or dagger or whatever, then the character receives 1 point. This one point is for any weapon used which has been poisoned, but even if multiple weapons are poisoned only 1 single point is counted for them as a whole.

Size

This category will primarily only be used for NPC's or Roshaka, but for certain races which are deemed "Large" or "Huge" in size they will receive an additional point to their Combat Score. 1 point given to those with a "Large" body, and 2 points for those with a "Huge" body. No penalty is given for the smaller sizes.

Specific Weaknesses

By chance, or by planning, if a character has a weapon or skill which is specifically listed as a "weakness" of their opponent then they will add 1 point to their Combat Score.

Example Combat Score

Marvin is a human Roshaka Hunter. He has average equipment, with an B Rank in Longblades, and a B rank in the Longsword specialty. He is also Rank C with Shields. He is carrying a poison dipped dagger he plans to use in his hunt. His Combat Score would be calculated as follows:

Swordsmanship (Longblade) Rank B; Longsword specialty Rank B: 4 points for Primary Skill + 2 points for specialty skill = 6

Shield Rank C: 3 points for Primary Skill= 3

Poison Dipped Dagger: 1 point for the poison, however, he does not have any skill in dagger so he receives no points.

1 point for being Human

Combat Score= 6 + 3 + 1 + 1= 11

Survival Rate

A Survival Rate is a percent rating which judges the potential difficulty a character will have in a situation. It is calculated by dividing the characters Combat Score by their opponents Combat Score.

Survival Rate= Character's Combat Score/Opponents Combat Score

Example Survival Rate

Lets say Marvin is facing a medium sized Roshaka with a Combat Score of 13. Using his previously calculated Combat Score we can calculate his Percent Survival Rate:

% Survival= Marvin's Score/Roshaka's Score= 11/13= 85% (round up the score)

Marvin has a 85% survival rating in this one on one battle with this Roshaka. Thus it would be a difficult battle, but it is reasonable to expect that he could win given a bit of ingenuity. He wont come out unscathed, but more than likely alive if he's careful.

In the case of multiple opponents the combined Combat Scores would be used in the Survival calculations. Continuing with the previous example, lets say Marvin now faces 3 of these Roshaka, each with a Combat Score of 13. Their combined Combat Score would be 39, thus Marvin's % Survival will change to reflect this.

% Survival= 11/39= 28%

Marvin has about a 28% survival rate when taking on these three creatures alone. It is possible to win, but chances are slim and even if he did come out victorious it would likely come at a grave cost. In most scenarios like this a good Hunter would know to back off and seek help. Perhaps Marvin returns to his guild and recruits 3 more members to join his group. Their Combat Scores are 10, 15 and 7. The Percent Survival Rating will now be calculated using their combined Combat Scores, divided by the Roshaka's combined scores.

11 + 15 + 7 + 10= 42 for Marvin's Team, and the Roshaka's score is still 39.

% Survival= 43/39= 100% (If the score is over 100 then the final score is still 100%)

With his new group Marvin's Survival Rate is at 100%, which means that him and his team should be able to finish off the Roshaka without any issue. Now accidents may occur, unexpected scenario's may arise or someone may become injured and thus change the situation entire. Still, with such a Survival rating success is about as close to assured as it could possibly get.

Final Notes

Combat Scores and Percent Survival Rates should only be used to give an idea for the difficulty of a situation, not to decide the overall outcome. There is a lot more that goes into any combat situation than just skill levels and items. The terrain, numbers, intelligence and strategy of the opponent could change a sure win into a loss at any time. Be cautious, and do not forget the greatest weapon one can have is one's own imagination.
